Porn Star Interview: Simon Dexter

STORY AND PHOTOS BY VINCENT LAMBERT

Simon Dexter wants to be an actor, and no one is going to keep him from his goal. Not even Harley from SeanCody.com. In reality, Dexter is Harley—or was. That’s the name the handsome 26-year-old model assumed for the popular porn Web site that he worked for over two and a half years. In that time, he appeared in more than 20 scenes playing the character of a manly straight guy who digs Asian chicks. But off-screen, Dexter is soft-spoken, thoughtful and articulate. In a recent interview with VincentLambert.com in New York City’s Bryant Park, the fledgling actor spoke candidly about his hopes to crossover. Casually dressed in jeans and a gray sweater and sporting a scruffy beard, he put to rest recent Internet rumors that he had been “dismissed” by Sean Cody.

“I was not let go,” Dexter says. “We parted on good terms. You can even read it on the site. Sean gives me good reviews.” As did fans of the site, who followed Harley as he was slowly but surely initiated into the world of man-on-man action. “Sure, gay sex was a stretch at first,” he admits. “I had to learn to appreciate it.”

Dexter, who is originally from Poland, came to the United States and settled in Chicago with his family when he was 6. At age 10, he started doing mixed marital arts, which may explain why he has a buffed body that now graces magazine covers, such as Freshmen. In college, he studied psychology, but after graduation, he found himself doing construction work. “I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew I needed money,” Dexter recalls. “I saw an ad on Craig’s List for modeling. It turned out to be adult modeling. I thought about it and decided I would give it a try. I sent in pictures and they flew me to San Diego for a photo shoot. I wasn’t sure what I was doing, but I learned.”

Soon Sean Cody came calling and the rest is Internet porn history. Fans ate up clean-cut Harley, the athletic jock with an oversize cock. But now, after a couple of years of making porn, Dexter feels that he’s ready for something more and is pursuing his dreams of a mainstream career. “I am prepared for negative press,” he says. “Of course there might be a stigma from Hollywood to use someone who did porn. I am prepared for the fact that I might not get cast in family-type films. But I am willing to work my way up and build my talent.”

Watch out, because Dexter is a man with a plan. He says that he hopes to start in movies as an extra and then progress to one-line parts and small roles. “I want to go from theater to independent film and then on to bigger films,” he says with confidence. When asked his dream role, he is quick to answer: “James Bond…or Batman! I want to play ultramasculine hero parts that appeal to movie fans.” And he wouldn’t look bad in either a tux or some tights!

In the meantime, Dexter is studying acting, going on auditions and working on his blog, SimonDexter.com, which explores his varied interests, including fashion, technology and current events. He is also working with talent manager David Forest through his ForestMeetings.com site for private meetings and personal appearances (he will be a guest at Cocktails With the Stars, the popular L.A. event hosted by Scotty B at Micky’s, on November 12). He feels that it’s a natural segue for a one-time porn performer who is looking to expand his horizons. “All porn is acting,” Dexter says. “That’s where I learned to perform under pressure. I know how to do it.”

Why is he wearing Uncle Seymour's sweater? Is that a very unflattering photo or has our golden boy lost his cute looks? I hope the first. Years ago he was one of my favorites. Kyle (p.s. Simon Rex did it, you can do it too Simon)

I'm definitely sure he will achieve what he wants. He is so talent and always works hard, learns and try new staff.
Best wishes to him.

I really don't know if he were so much a straight masculine guy, why would he do gay porn in first place? moreover doing porn to earn money is no excuse. Someday even a drug peddler can say in his defense that he did that only for money!! Ridiculous. anyways I don't give curses to anybody, wish him a successful career in films, but I found it very disappointing that a person would do porn for just a small fortune. porn gives hidden pleasures for those who watch it. it never gives fame or stardom.
