Event: Rage Art Exhibit at Envoy Gallery

Feeling full of rage? So were we last week after riding the NYC subway to the Envoy Gallery on Chrystie Street, but it was all worth it for a one-night-only exhibition titled Rage by artist Robert W. Richards. The talented illustrator, who has been turning out great work for HX, Men, Manshots and other gay and nongay publications for years (and was featured in this exhibit and curated this one), presented 21 new pieces that he created over the past six months. “I wanted to do a show about what I see,” Richards told “And rage is what I see surrounding me. There is so much anger, on the streets, people screaming on their cell phones. It’s so prevalent that it has almost become erotic.” Which is exactly the word that describes Richards’ vibrant and intense drawings. Seen: Village People singer Randy Jones and fashionista Patrick McDonald (pictured below with Richards); singer Marilyn Maye; lawyer Mark Sendroff; Concord, Virginia author Peter Neofotis; photographer Chuck of; artist Slava Mogutin (who also has a show at the Envoy); and many others.
