Short Takes: Joe Gage Classics Screen in Chicago…and More

The classics live on! The Bijou Theater in Chicago is celebrating the work of veteran director Joe Gage with screenings of three of his epic 1970s road movies. Kansas City Trucking Company, El Paso Wrecking Corp. and L.A. Tool & Die will be shown from November 9–11 as part of the continuing Spotlight Series, which examines classics of gay adult cinema and their role in the larger culture. “If nothing more, these films brought together most of the biggest names in gay porn of the time: Fred Halsted, Casey Donovan, Bob Blount, Will Seagers and Paul Barresi, to name a few,” a theater spokesperson says. “Starring in all three films is none other than gay porn’s first ‘daddy,’ Richard Locke. Beyond the pool of talent, the films set several standards in storytelling, camerawork, editing and homoerotica that few have surpassed.” Amen to that! For more information, call the box office at 312-943-5425 or visit…Lucas Entertainment is the latest gay porn studio to bring its movies to a cell phone near you. The New York–based company has announced a deal with Spankmo Mobile to launch its entry into the mobile arena. The content will be compatible with all Web-enabled mobile phones and feature high-resolution scenes from Lucas’s brands plus special mobile-only content. “Throughout Lucas Entertainment’s history, we have always been at the forefront of new media,” president, CEO and porn superstar Michael Lucas says. “As adult content continues to adapt to a technology-heavy environment, I’m proud to be working with a company as forward-thinking as Spankmo Mobile.” The service is expected to go live later this month. In other news, Lucas and crew have completed filming Inside Israel (out November 23) and the two-disc best-of compilation The Michael Lucas Collection streets this week. And yes, the Russian auteur is in every scene!…Speaking of classic films and stars, anyone recognize the bearded stud pictured on the left below? Hint: He’s a former Falcon Studios lifetime exclusive who won raves in the 1990s (the bottom photo is from 1996). For everyone who said Tom Chase, you get a gold star! Chase, who starred in movies such as California Kings (in which he bottomed for Mike Branson), FULLfilled and The Chosen, has been quiet of late, following the film Inside Out for COLT Studio Group last year, but now, at age 44, a hairier and beefier version of the gay porn icon is back with a new project. Chase is starring with Tim Kelly (who famously flip-flopped with Matthew Rush in Brief Encounters when Rush left Falcon earlier this year) in The Big One for Butch Bear Media. Hmmm, we wonder whether Chase has the title role! The film is due out next month.
