Short Takes: Wet Palms Returns…and More
In case you missed it, Wet Palms is back. It seems like only yesterday, or a couple of years ago, that Jet Set Men released a highlights DVD from the gay porn soap opera centered around the lives of the residents of a West Hollywood hotel. Well, if you didn’t see that (or the film series in its original release in 2004–05), then you have another chance. All nine episodes of Wet Palms are now available online for Download-To-Own. Each GAYVN Award–winning episode is presented in its entirety with all the campy dialogue and hard-core sex intact, and you can now enjoy it on your iPhone, iPod, Zune or computer. The ensemble cast included Rod Barry (above), Rob Romoni (now Jet Set’s director of casting and marketing), Michael Soldier, Gabriel Knight, Brad Benton, Jason Ridge, Cody Cash and Bret Wolfe, plus cameos by Chi Chi LaRue, Sharon Kane, Andrew Addams and Chad Donovan. “Making Wet Palms was so much fun,” Romoni recalls. “Some of my best memories in porn are from being on those sets. The hysterical scenes are even funnier on an iPhone!” For more information, visit JetSetMen.com.…Awards season is almost upon us. If you care, nominations are now being accepted for the Cybersocket Web Awards. This annual event celebrates the best of the LGBT community online. Outstanding Web sites are recognized for their achievements in two categories: Surfers Choice and Industry Choice. Online nominations for both are open from now until September 30. And listen up, ’cause we’re only gonna say this once: If you visit and enjoy VincentLambert.com on a daily basis and would like to nominate it for Best Porn Blog, please feel free to do so by clicking here. Thank you. That is all.…In other awards news, if anyone is keeping track, the nominations for the GAVYN Awards, set for September 24 in San Francisco, have been pushed back to August 20. No reason was given. Speaking of which, Vince got the call to duty last week and was asked to serve as a GAYVN judge (for the 12th time!). Bring it on, bbs!…Porn people are talking—or at least director Michael Lucas is. The Lucas Entertainment president and CEO has penned a new op-ed piece for The Advocate titled “Marriage Is a Bad Word.” Lucas writes, “I don’t believe that our fight for marriage is the fastest way to real equality. My heart doesn’t beat faster when I see a couple clad in black and white marching down an aisle, and I don’t feel sentimental when I hear a couple exchange the mostly empty promises of the traditional marriage ceremony.” In light of the recent overturn of Prop 8 in California, this column is a must-read. Director John Waters, who is doing his one-man show, This Filthy World, in Provincetown on August 20, just did a sitdown with our buddy and Vidioview.com colleague Mark Adams. The Role Models author discusses his hit movies, such as Hairspray and Cry-Baby, and their Broadway counterparts, plus why Oprah and Ellen aren’t ready to have him on their shows to discuss gay porn.
