Movie Review: Entrapment

BY VINCENT LAMBERT

Cast: Ryan Raz, Dimitri Romanov, Vin Costes, Isaiah Foxx, Andrew James, Lars Svenson, Kayl O’Riley, Murphy Maxwell, Trae Angle.

Recent real-life events at Manhattan’s adult stores are the inspiration for Lucas Entertainment’s Entrapment. The film takes on the serious issue of gay men being falsely arrested for prostitution as they browse the aisles of a gay video shop (which just happens to display recent Lucas releases. Hey, no one ever said Michael Lucas was above a bit of shameless self-promotion!). In six scenes, we follow new Lucas exclusive Dimitri Romanov as he gets nailed—first by off-duty police officer Vin Costas, then by Costas’s smirky partner Ryan Raz (below), who entices Romanov at the bookstore then brings him in for questioning. Romanov was discovered by Lucas on a trip to his Russian homeland, and his English is minimal if nonexistent (proven in a DVD extra interview in which Lucas translates for the adorable young hunk). This makes his framing all the more unfair. There’s a contrived subplot in which Raz’s kid brother (Andrew James) comes out to him (after having hot interracial sex with Isaiah Foxx). But the centerpiece is Raz’s interrogation of Romanov after his arrest. Sure, Raz has a pretty prick and proves himself as a top, but the blond twink can barely keep a straight face during his dramatic scenes. Sadly, he just doesn’t have the gravitas to pull off a role of this nature. On a serious note, Lucas (who co-directs with Mr. Pam) shows up in the closing credits to lecture viewers on the importance of civil liberties—which is exactly what most porn viewers crave while they’re jacking!
