News: Drew Warner Passes Away

Sad news: Director Drew Warner has died. San Diego Gay & Lesbian News is reporting that Warner (aka Andrew Briskin) passed away on Monday following an illness. The paper did not name the illness or cause of death. Warner, who lived in Puerta Vallarta, was 44 years old. In recent years, he had started a travel company in Mexico, but he was known to most as an award-winning videographer, editor, director, producer and sometime performer in the gay porn industry. He ran his own Sports & Recreation Video studio in the late 1990s, and rented out his West Hollywood loft for the filming of numerous films. He also discovered and guided the careers of many porn superstars, including Dean Phoenix and Jeremy Hall. Drew (pictured above right with model Rhett O’Hara) also went on to work with several dance artists, and produced and promoted music events in San Diego and elsewhere. We did this interview with him in 2001, in which he talked about how he got his start in the industry. It was refreshing to talk to someone who pulled no punches and told it like it was. In 2002, Vince also wrote for a magazine Warner started called Inside Porn. Drew was never at a loss for ideas, inspirations or projects. He will be missed.

News: Count Three and Pray

Okay, it’s time to run our annual drool-worthy picture of Rusty Joiner. Trusty Rusty was here when we turned one and two. Now the Icon Men hunk is back to celebrate the third anniversary of VincentLambert.com! Yes, kids, another year has passed and we continue to blog about gay porn in its many incarnations. This year, the industry kept evolving (or devolving, depending on who you asked), and we did our best to keep up and keep y’all informed. We went on porn cruises, attended erotic art fairs and watched as they handed out awards to hookers (yes, they give awards for that!). We interviewed famous directors and photographed veteran ones. We traveled to L.A. and made it to Industry (before it went kaput) and even had Cocktails With the Stars. And of course there were the models, young and, er, classic: We ate lunch with Simon Dexter and dinner with Jeremy Feist (young); we played bingo with Robert Van Damme and hit the road with Mark Dalton (definitely classic). But it was old-timer Dean Phoenix and newcomer Robert Gonzalez who really got us going.

At the movies, we joined in the Best of the Decade group blogging event (here’s Part 1 and Part 2) with numerous other industry writers, spotted trends (twins!), called out a lame documentary and actually found something watchable on MTV! We continued the Should Do Porn posts that first put us on the map (Mr. Joiner was one of the premier subjects), held our annual calendar contest (thanks, Raging Stallion!) and even wrote about video games (we hear the kids like ’em). Although we’ve never been nominated or won an award (hint), sometime in the past year we landed on the Starrfucker.net Top 10 Blog list. Vince showed up as a “porn expert” on The Derek and Romaine Show on Sirius Radio and continued to write for Unzipped, Men, Freshmen and GAYVN, until they folded or downsized! We also did lots of Tweeting over the past 12 months (follow us @VinceLambertNYC)—or at least as much as time (and our scintillating workout schedule) allowed.

So it was a year. It might not sound like much, but we did our best to bring you all the latest gay porn news, gossip and information—or at least the stories that we found interesting and/or amusing. After all, if you can’t get a good giggle from this crazy biz, then what’s the point? Thanks to all the readers who visit on a daily basis (are we really approaching 1.5 million unique visitors!?) and to all the other sites and bloggers who offer links, support and encouragement. Oh, and the studios and porn stars too, who make much of our content possible. And props to anyone who can figure out the origins of our obscure headline today (courtesy of one of our fave ’80s bands). Keep reading, writing in and commenting, guys. The rest is yet to come!

News: Jet Set Men Signs Hayden Stephens

Jet Set Men has announced the signing of Hayden Stephens to an exclusive contract. The 24-year-old stud recently completed a string of successful appearances on Jet Set’s Straight Edge Web site, including one in which he tops superstar Dean Phoenix (something that has happened only once before on-screen). Stephens, who first caught our eye a year ago in Falcon Studios’ Overtime, has worked for several porn studios under at least one other name before hooking up with Jet Set to film online content. Next he will star in the upcoming film CarJackers, co-directed by Chris Steele and John Tegan, in a duo with Landon Mycles. Freshmen magazine has announced that porn star Zack Randall (above) is 2009’s Freshman of the Year. Randall, who has appeared in numerous films and recently signed a deal with the SaggerzSkaterz Web sites, previously received this honor in 2007. He got the most votes from readers, beating out Kirk Cummings, who came in second place. Models Trent Davis, Marcus Mojo and Dylan McLovin were among the top-five finalists, and all the guys will be featured in new layouts in the September issue of Freshmen. News: GAYVN Awards Announce Hall of Famers

GAYVN has announced its inductees into the 2009 GAYVN Hall of Fame. Veteran director and Hall of Fame member Gino Colbert will once again present the honorees with their awards during the GAYVN Awards on Saturday, March 28, at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. This year’s inductees are:

Dean Phoenix (above) made his debut in 1998 and went on to become a GAYVN Award winner and an icon in the industry. Despite retiring in 2000, he made a triumphant return in the 2004 Buckshot classic BuckleRoos and has continued his hot streak with films such as Brotherhood, Forever Young and On Fire!

Michael Lucas (below) has won numerous GAYVN Awards for his many films, including Dangerous Liaisons, La Dolce Vita, The Intern and Gigolo, and has cemented his stature as an A-list director and performer with both his own studio, New York–based Lucas Entertainment, and his own distribution company, Lucas Distribution.

Chris Steele started his career as a performer for many studios before turning to writing, producing and directing (Big Dick Society). He’s a GAYVN and Grabby Award winner and is currently head honcho at Jet Set Men.

Dink Flamingo is a pioneer in amateur Web site content, filming men from nearby military bases for ActiveDuty.com. In 2007, he branched out with a new video line, Dirty Bird Pictures (The Porn Ultimatum), and recently helped Brent Corrigan launch his own studio, Prodigy Pictures (Summit).

Jack Simmons was the first African-American model to work for major studios, including Falcon (The Freshmen), Titan Media (Naked Escape) and All Worlds (Animus).

Phil St. John was the first to shoot a double-penetration scene in gay porn, the first to shoot gay porn focused on skate culture and the first to include a behind-the-scenes extra for a DVD. He is best-known for Skateboard Sliders, Getting It at the Rave, Taggers and Double Delights.

TJ Paris is a San Francisco native who got started in the biz in 1985 and discovered stars such as Paul Morgan and Rob Steele.

Colbert will also present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Roger Earl, who co-founded (with Terry LeGrand) Marathon Films and edited, wrote and directed 16 mm films before forming the Gay Producers Association of America (also with LeGrand), which presented the first gay porn awards. He worked at the Tom of Finland Foundation until he retired in 2007.

Movie Review: King Size

Cast: Kyle King, Ross Hurston, Dean Phoenix, Rafael Alencar, Mike Roberts, Colby Keller, Scott Tanner, Josh West.

The men of Hot House Video’s new release King Size don’t bother with plot, dialogue or even pleasantries. They just wander around in colorful jockstraps, occasionally dropping to their knees for a blowjob or bending over for a hot fuck. Cover model and newcomer Kyle King makes an impressive debut in the opening scene with porn vet Dean Phoenix. You’d never know that King was doing his first on-screen sex as he sucks Phoenix’s uncut (and still unique) cock. And even though he’s been making films for more than a decade, handsome Phoenix looks better than ever and has even grown as a performer. (Favorite shot: sweat glistening on Dean’s perfect pecs.) By the time he eats King’s sweet pink hole and delivers a hard banging, they both look like experienced pros, especially because King stays rock-hard throughout. Hey, some old-timers can’t even do that!

In the first moments of the next scene, Rafael Alencar is rigid and ready when exclusive Ross Hurston swings by to suck him. Alencar eventually positions him on a tire and rams him all over again. A tire? Well, that’s a new one.

King turns up again in the final scene, a threeway with Mike Roberts and Josh West. West then takes over for some sweaty, deep cock-in-ass action and a facial for King to wrap up his movie debut. The lighting is especially good throughout, and picture quality is excellent.
