Short Takes: Porn Awards Frenzy…and More

Sure, the Academy Awards are coming up next month, but gay porn fans are salivating at the very thought of the Grabbys. This annual event, slated this year for Saturday, May 29, at the Park West Theater in Chicago, will be hosted as always by dragsters Chi Chi LaRue and Honey West. On the porn star side, Roman Heart (above) and Diesel Washington will co-host along with…well, you decide. The third porn star host will be picked by the fans, and the current nominees include Jeremy Bilding, Michael Brandon (he’s back! Monster too!), Mike Dreyden, Josh Griffin and Twitter superstar Rob Romoni. To vote for your favorite stud, click here.…Speaking of awards, the 2010 XBIZ Awards were doled out in Hollywood last week. And although this show (and magazine) mostly celebrates the straight side of the industry, there were five gay and two trans categories. This year’s winners included Titan Media as Gay Studio of the Year (for the third year in a row); Raging Stallion took Movie of the Year for its Focus/Refocus blockbuster; Hot House Entertainment founder Steven Scarborough was named Gay Director of the Year; and stars Tyler Saint and Logan McCree shared the coveted Performer of the Year title. Congrats all around, guys!…And now, some news about another upcoming award show (no, not the GAYVNs; the jury is still out on those): the Fourth-Annual Blatino Oasis Erotica Awards are set to take place May 7–10 at the Canyon Club Hotel in Palm Springs. This year’s event will be hosted by “The Ever Loving Sister Quintella Caldwell, the 87-Year-Old Evangelist of Comedy” (Who!? That’s what the press release says!), and the 2010 honorees include porn star and producer/director Ty Lattimore (below), who after 13 years and more than 40 films will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Castro aka Supreme will be honored as America’s Top Top and Shorty J. as America’s Top Bottom. Jovonnie is Best Porn Star, and Pitbull Productions will be recognized for Best Video Production. An award for Best Newcomer will be announced on the day of the ceremony. Okay, now is that enough with the awards already?!
