News: Wrangler Doc to Open at Film Fests

Jack Wrangler was an epic porn star. For those too tender of age to remember, he was a major ’70s stud who made more than 85 blue movies. Now, he’s being immortalized in a new documentary from director Jeffrey Schwarz. Automat Pictures recently announced the dates of the world premiere of the feature film Wrangler: Anatomy of an Icon. The buff blond superstar (who was perpetually tan because he wore makeup from head to toe!) appeared in numerous gay porn films, including Wanted (with fellow ’70s stud Al Parker), New York Construction Co. and Navy Blue Hanky Left, before crossing over to the straight side for The Devil in Miss Jones II and others. (And who can forget the classic Heavy Equipment, which we recall seeing in 3-D when it was revived at the Eighth Street Playhouse in NYC?) Wrangler, who is now 62, went on to write and produce theater in New York and even penned his autobiography in 1984, titled The Jack Wrangler Story, or What’s a Nice Boy Like You Doing? In 1994, he wed singer Margaret Whiting and never looked back. To see all the tawdry details—and talking-head cameos from some of our nearest and dearest, including Gino Colbert, Joe Gage, Michael Musto and Robert W. Richards, and we won’t mention those we know who got left on the cutting-room floor <cough>—readers in New York and San Francisco can head to the following screenings:
