Interview Exclusive: Jason Adonis

Look who’s back! Though if you ask Jason Adonis, he’s never really been gone. “I’ve been here all along,” the 30-year-old porn superstar told VincentLambert.com in an exclusive interview this week. Hot on the heels of signing his exclusive contract with Raging Stallion last fall, Adonis appeared in the award-winning film Brutal for director Tony Dimarco. Now, he’s returned for two new movies for the studio: Dominus, which features him topping Race Cooper, and its sequel, Animus.

“I always wanted to do a leather/bondage-type scene,” Adonis says. “And I have also never done an interracial scene, so as part of my new deal with Raging Stallion, I figured I would try and do some things I haven’t done before.”

Although Adonis, who is married and has a 12-year-old daughter, has been plagued by gay-for-pay put-downs throughout his 10 years in the industry, he says that he has never understood the labels. “I have always found those names weird and kind of tacky,” he says. “I’m sexual. That’s all. I like getting attention from guys and girls.”

So when the scene with Cooper came up, Adonis saw it as a chance to prove he was no “gay-for-pay diva.” RSS president Chris Ward offered him the chance to ram muscle hunk Cooper and Adonis saw it as “the perfect opportunity to show what I can do. Plus, Race was easy to work with and has a huge dick.”

Besides broadening his range, Adonis seems to be happy with his new rough-and-tumble image. “Now I look more like a young man than an old boy,” he laughs. And that harder edge will be on display in two new scenes he will be filming for RSS this month—including one in which he will bottom. “Staying hard becomes so exhausting,” Adonis says of his usual role of top man. “Bottoming is going to be a welcome change. I want to start taking a more submissive role. I mean, as a bottom, all you have to do is get cleaned out and loosened up, and you’re good to go!” But is he nervous about taking it like a man on-screen? “I have a good selection of toys at home,” he admits. “No one is going to be as big as one of those!”

In addition to his latest film work, Adonis is also slated to co-host (with Scotty B) Cocktails With the Stars at Micky’s in West Hollywood on July 20. “I’m looking forward to that,” Adonis says. “I have never hosted before, and I am fairly quick-witted and like having fun with that. So it should be good.” He also doesn’t rule out other future live appearances. “I will take the right offers if they come along,” he adds.

But for now Adonis is content to ride out his contract with RSS. “It’s so much easier being an exclusive,” he says. “You don’t make as much money as when you’re a free agent, but the studio deals with all the politics and bullshit, so it’s worth it.” While he looks back fondly at some of the past 10 years of making porn (Falcon Studios’ Taking Flight was one of his favorite experiences because “I got to go to London and hang out and work with my friend Josh Weston”), Adonis isn’t sure exactly what his future holds. He owns a small business in the Midwest and prides himself on keeping his family together. “Balancing porn and a family is not easy to do,” he says. “But my family always comes first. People can call me flaky and unreliable, but the only times I have acted that way were when I had to make my family a priority.”

As he preps for his upcoming scenes with daily workouts and a strict diet regimen, Adonis seems resigned to the facts of his life. “I’m done trying to figure out why so much BS goes on in this industry,” he says with a sigh. “It’s just too stressful. From now on, I’m just going with the flow.”

Porn Star Interview: Logan Drake

Faces don’t get much fresher than this. Porn star Logan Drake is a 22-year-old cutie with a few scenes under his belt. “I’ve been interested in porn since I was 18,” says the Virginia Beach native who landed his first photo shoot while still a college student in Richmond. “I had a friend in the industry who got me interested. He told me what to expect, and his description was spot-on.” But Drake is quick to point out: “I really got into this business because I enjoy having sex.”

And it shows! In the few online scenes he has appeared in for the Circle Jerk Boys and Dominic Ford Web sites, Drake has made a great first impression. Of his debut scene with Dayton O’Connor, Logan recalls that he felt “nervous and excited but anxious to put the newbie title behind me. I don’t enjoy being new to things. I like being experienced.” He then goes on to recount that during the shoot, he and O’Connor were going at it so hard that he “got fucked right off the workout bench” they were on. But by the time he topped Billy Byron poolside (below) for the Coconut Cove series, he looked like a seasoned pro.

“Logan was great,” director Dominic Ford says. “He is a newcomer but was a total pro. He has a great body and a really big and thick cock, which got us a little excited when we finally saw him naked. He seemed completely at ease in front of the camera. And the way he pounds Billy in our scene shows you just how good at his job he is!”

Speaking of scene partners, Drake says that he likes to know his beforehand. “It shows more chemistry when you do the actual scene,” he says. When asked his type, Logan says that he’s open to all but “I’m mostly attracted to personalities.” And one recent co-star has a gorgeous one, according to Drake. “I just did two scenes with Rod Daily,” he says. “Rod has an amazing body and is so sweet. But his personality is what makes him so special. We did one scene in a single take, and it was hot!” The scenes will be out soon on the Perfect Guys and Bait Buddies Web sites.

In the meantime, Drake, who currently resides in Orlando, says that he has shot two major movies for Falcon Studios’ Jocks line and one for Raging Stallion (co-starring Noah Springs). And he’s trying to pack some muscle onto his smooth twink body. While he doesn’t plan too far ahead, he says that he would consider a move behind the cameras someday. “I would definitely say that production is a passion of mine.” Oh, and for those who are wondering about the relationship status of the openly gay (“Women don’t do it for me”) porn star, he switches to the third person: “Logan Drake is single. He will never be in a relationship.” Is this some newfound porn star affectation? “No, it’s just that my porn life and personal life are very separate.”

Sounds like the fresh-faced newbie has learned a thing or two already.

Interview Exclusive: Clay Maverick Returns

Clay Maverick loves a challenge. That’s why the porn superstar has decided to make his latest return to the industry into a sort of Biggest Loser contest. When we last spoke to Maverick in 2002, he was primed for another comeback in the award-winning classic White Trash. After making a name for himself in the mid-1990s working for major studios such as Falcon, COLT and Studio 2000 in films such as Hard Focus, Big Timber and Carnal Intentions, Maverick decided to take a break from the big biz and return to school.

“I was a manic,” Maverick recalls of his first splash. “I did a lot of partying, spent a lot of money.” So the Seattle native made a move to Denver to study interior design. He got his degree and started working for a firm there. In 2002, he stuck his toes back in the water with a couple of movies, including White Trash, but soon returned to his legit career. When the economy started going south, Maverick was laid off from his job. He went back to Seattle in 2006 and started his own design company. “It’s a pain in the ass,” he says. “I’m more of a creative guy, not much of a businessman.”

But that creativity gave him the idea to write a book about his life and the years he spent in and around the porn industry. “I’ve got some crazy stories, man,” Maverick promises. “People won’t believe some of the stuff that went on in the old days. I’m writing this book to get my side of the story out—how I got into the business, the go-go dancing at clubs, making movies, all of it.” The book, titled Going Out on Top, will be serialized by the chapter on Amazon and through Maverick’s own Web site starting the end of this month.

And the prospect of writing his autobiography soon gave him the idea to make another comeback. “I decided I need to get my face back out there,” Maverick says. He realized how much the industry had changed in his absence and that new fans might need to be reminded about his contributions of more than a decade ago. “I think doing a few solo scenes will help with that, and they won’t cross any lines with my partner. It’s all about building awareness.”

(Note: Maverick is still as cagey about his sexual orientation as he was in 2002. He refers to having a partner but declines to elaborate or even divulge a gender.)

So, in a bid to reenter the industry, he decided to contact some of the studios he once worked for. “I went out in my backyard and my partner took some pics of me,” he says. “I decided to send them out and see if anyone was interested in hiring me.”

Now, the last time Maverick resumed his career, there was no Twitter, no blogs and no bitchy bloggers documenting his every move. Recent photos of the former Adonis, who is now 34, surfaced and showed him to be a bit, er, bloated. Then COLT Studio Group rejected him with a curt “keep working out and then contact us.” Maverick was surprised at the reaction. “I barely even looked at the pictures,” he recalls. “I knew I wasn’t in the best shape of my life, but I just e-mailed them out. It’s funny—when I was at my most lean back in the day, I was also doing speed and at my most unhealthy!” So was he hurt by some of the online comments about his appearance? “People are always gonna talk crap,” he says. “I’m used to it. In fact, I love snarky comments and I’m not easily offended.”

And he ended up using that criticism as inspiration to reinvent himself. “Being rejected was a great way to show what it’s like to get back into shape,” he says. The result is a new blog, Clay Maverick’s Ask a Porn Star, which documents his progress on a weekly basis. “I decided just for fun to become like a living experiment!”

And part of that experiment means hitting the gym and the weights. “I know exactly what to do,” Maverick says with confidence. “I know exactly how my body works. I started lifting weights in seventh grade. I have started doing more bodybuilding, shaping for symmetry. Sure, I’m dieting a bit and eating more healthfully, but it’s about moving the muscle around.”

Maverick predicts it will take him about two months to be ready to submit new audition pics. In the meantime, he’s looking pretty fine (see new exclusive photo above) for his first personal appearance since 2003 when he returns to Cocktails With the Stars at Micky’s in West Hollywood this Thursday, August 5. “Honestly, I don’t know what to expect,” he says. “I haven’t done an appearance in so long, but I’m excited.”

Maverick says that he’s looking forward to seeing fans—old and new—and plunging back into an industry that first welcomed him in 1997. “Sure, things have changed,” he says, “but the industry is still made up of all kinds of interesting characters. With my book, I hope to show the funny aspects of the business, but also bring some compassion for the performers. After all, they’re just humans too.”

And humans pick themselves up and put themselves back together when the going gets tough. Clay Maverick will finish his book and film his comeback scene soon. Count on it.

Porn Star Interview: Johnny Hanson

Johnny Hanson is early. When I arrive at Lucas Entertainment’s New York office at six o’clock sharp, the 1990s porn superstar is already seated on a couch in the lobby. Casually dressed in a beige DKNY sweater, jeans and a cap, Hanson is waiting to give the first interview of his big comeback. His 10-year absence from the porn scene is evident in his more mature look and husky build (he admits to gaining 20 pounds), but at age 41, Hanson is still every bit the screen stud who captivated the industry when he signed as a Falcon exclusive in 1995.

Fresh from filming his first scene in more than a decade for Lucas Entertainment’s The Bigger, the Better, Hanson smiles and says in his familiar New Yawk accent, “It’s good to be back. Sure, I was nervous to come back. I was very hyper on the set when we filmed the scene, but once we got naked, it was very easy. I realized, hey, I’m not shy anymore! I felt comfortable with myself and what I was doing. I even ended up rimming the guy!”

The guy in question is Lucas exclusive Steven Ponce, and the man who lured Hanson back to the business was none other than New York porn mogul Michael Lucas. “When I first moved to America in 1997,” Lucas recalls, “Johnny Hanson was on the cover of every magazine. I never saw his movies, but from pictures I thought that he looked absolutely stunning. I found him five years later when my company was still very young and Johnny was…let’s say, a bit difficult, so we couldn’t come to an agreement. But then I ran into him on the street in New York recently, and he was very friendly and enthusiastic.”

This time the men struck a deal. But Lucas had one condition: “Johnny had to agree to do more than just fuck. I wanted to show him as the all-around sex machine that he is, so I wanted him to rim and suck cock too, and he was great at it! I am glad that the fans of Johnny Hanson will be able to see him fucking, eating ass, sucking cock and enjoying himself the whole time.”

Hanson adds his side of the story: “I met Michael Lucas through an ex-boyfriend. Michael was always trying to get me to do a scene. He wanted me to suck cock because I had never done it on-screen before. I always had the image of a straight guy—I would get sucked then fuck. He wanted to change that, and eventually he convinced me to do it. It took six years, but he did it!”

If he was going to return to porn, Hanson agreed that his limited sexual repertoire in the ’90 had to change. “I kind of felt like I had left the fans hanging,” he says. “People would write or ask me when I was coming back. Michael convinced me that there was demand to see me suck a dick…and more. I wanted to give that to the fans. I guess you could say that I’m a people pleaser.”

But the road to a comeback had taken many years for the hunky star. Born to an Italian family in Queens, New York, Hanson was one of six children, and he always dreamed of becoming an actor. He was studying at the Sanford Meisner Center, tending bar and go-go dancing while he waited for his big break. One day, all that changed when director Chi Chi LaRue spotted him dancing atop a box and asked whether he wanted to be in the movies. Hanson, who had never really entertained the notion, agreed and signed with Falcon Studios. The collaboration produced such porn classics as The Other Side of Aspen III and IV and Download. He went on to appear in Hot Firemen (Centaur) and Trying It On for Size (Studio 2000).

“It was a learning experience,” Hanson says of his initial brush with porn and stardom. “I was very shy and self-conscious, but I did it.” After a while, movies weren’t enough for Hanson, who decided to use his nightlife connections to make a dance record. “I wanted another way to promote myself,” he says, “so I thought that having a song out would help that.” Hanson wrote the lyrics and performed the song “Mr. Fantasy,” which was released on Eightball Records. The single, which was remixed by superstar DJ Junior Vasquez, was positively reviewed in Billboard and received club play.

On a roll, Hanson posed for Playgirl and made his off-Broadway acting debut as the lead in Ronnie Larsen’s Making Porn. But when the spotlight got too hot, Hanson decided to walk away. “It was kind of overwhelming,” he says. “I never wanted the fame. I wanted the money.” So he dropped out, moved to Miami and went back to school, studying math and liberal arts. But after a couple of years, he returned to New York, where he began auditioning for commercials and other nonporn acting gigs. “I wanted to go legitimate,” Hanson says. “I wanted to be taken seriously. I wanted to be known for more than having a fat dick, but it never happened.”

When acting gigs didn’t materialize, Hanson admits to being “disappointed and depressed.” This led to some recreational drug use and hard partying. Although Hanson denies that he was ever a heavy drinker, he does admit to being a “weekend user” at the time. He also denies rumors that he was homeless and living on the streets of New York. Following a breakup with a boyfriend, he says that he was left without an apartment, but that only led to high hotel bills until he relocated to New York’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.

Now, more than 10 years after his first big splash, Hanson is back and ready to work. “I have no agenda,” he says. “I am just playing it by ear.” In the years that he has been out of the business, he says that he has not really followed it, but he is aware of the many changes, including the advent of the Internet, DVDs and Viagra. “I wish we had Viagra in my day!” Hanson jokes. There is also the rising popularity of bareback movies. “I think that is just stupid,” he says. “It’s not too smart and way too risky.”

But Hanson says that his time away has taught him some valuable lessons. “I can cope better now,” he says. “I know the industry. I know to be careful, that you can’t really trust anyone. The years have been hard, but today I am drug-free and now I know that I’m an intelligent person, that I am more than a fat dick—that’s for damn sure!”

While he fields offers and decides his next career move, Hanson seems to be at peace with where the years have taken him. “Maybe this is what I was meant to be,” he says. “I’ve accepted it.” Then he pauses and adds with a grin, “And who knows? Maybe I’ll come back in another 10 years to bottom!”

Porn Star Interview: Johnny Hazzard

Porn star Johnny Hazzard had a good time at this year’s GAYVN Awards. “I couldn’t believe it!” exclaimed the Rascal exclusive and winner of three awards. Speaking a week later from his home in Palm Springs, the 28-year-old Cleveland native seemed to still be letting it all sink in. His rise to the upper echelon of porn hadn’t really taken that long.

It was only three years ago that Hazzard was living in Boston and spending his summers in Provincetown. The way he tells it, one day he woke up and decided, Hey, I could do porn! And it was as simple as that. The tattooed cutie called old pal Doug Jeffries, who put him in touch with director Chi Chi LaRue. She liked his pictures and flew him out to Los Angeles to do a scene in Detention. Since then he has made more than 10 movies, including Bolt and What Men Do, and become one of Rascal’s rising stars.

But last year, Wrong Side of the Tracks 1-2 put Hazzard into a different class of porn stardom. The film, which received 12 GAYVN nominations and won seven awards, was built around Hazzard and his edgy bad boy persona. But Hazzard claims his character is not based on him. “It mirrors an element of my personality,” he says, “but it’s not me.”

Tracks took almost a month to shoot and pushed Hazzard in many new directions. “I worked every day,” he says. “I was always doing something—B-roll, sex scenes, whatever.” And it required him to do more acting than ever before. “That was fun,” he says. “At first I didn’t take it seriously, but I got into it. It was something different and new. I realized that I possess this skill.”

Which explains why his Best Actor trophy means the most to Hazzard. “I really wanted that one,” he says. “I mean, to be named actor of the year—it was just too much. When I won, I felt like, You like me, you really like me!”

Of his award for Best Sex Scene (Duo) with Tyler Riggz, Hazzard says, “It was a fucking amazing scene. We really were in the back of an old van, jammed in there with [videographer] Hue Wilde and his camera. Chi Chi was communicating with us via baby monitor. It took about two hours to shoot. As soon as the scene was done, we were like, ‘That’s it! Best sex scene!’ We just knew!”

His third award was for Best Solo Performance. “I didn’t even really remember the scene,” Hazzard admits. “Solo scenes are usually where you just sit on camera and play with yourself. It’s pretty easy.”

With his awards tucked away on a shelf in his bedroom, Hazzard is pondering his next move. “Chi Chi has been the brainchild behind the movies,” he says, “but we have been throwing a couple ideas around. I think there will be a scene in an upcoming movie where I shave my head.”

In the meantime, Hazzard will be making personal appearances and working on his Web site, which features his blog (where his mom posts too!). He has landed a few writing assignments, including for Frontiers magazine, and in the future hopes to create a clothing line. “Fashion and design are two things I am passionate about,” Hazzard says. “And I even like to sew!”
