News: Titan Exec Pens Open Letter On BB Biz

Following director Michael Lucas’s comments yesterday regarding porn star Johnny Hanson’s decision to do a bareback scene, Keith Webb, vice president of San Franciso-based Titan Media, has sent an e-mail to numerous journalists and industry insiders commending Lucas for his actions. “Thank you for having the courage to speak out when you see hypocrisy and irresponsibility going on within the industry,” Webb writes. “The unspoken truth is that most all of the performers in U.S.A.-produced gay bareback films are HIV-positive. Everyone within the industry knows this, but they are not willing to admit it publicly. Why else would someone be willing to take 50 loads up his ass?”

In the open letter, Webb offers suggestions and calls for changes within the gay bareback part of the business. “At the very least the producers of these films should be honest and place a warning screen at the beginning of each clip/film advising that the performers are HIV-positive and have chosen to work without condoms because of their HIV status,” he writes. “This would at least help the community and people watching the films to better understand the high-risk behavior they are viewing and help them make more informed and better decisions about their own sexual practices.”

The performer-turned-executive goes on to discuss the common practices that take advantage of twink performers in poorer eastern European countries, where there is little if any HIV/AIDS education. “Many of them just need the money and will perform bareback for an extra $100 to $200. Many of these kids are ‘straight’ or bi and think that as long as they don’t perform with self-identified and openly gay performers that they are safe and will not get HIV.”

Webb says that he thinks people are afraid to talk openly about barebacking in films because they fear the ramifications from Cal/OSHA, an organization responsible for enforcing California laws pertaining to workplace safety and health, and other governmental agencies. “What Cal/OSHA and the others are seeing is that the bareback part of the gay industry is not doing any formalized testing and is not using condoms,” Webb writes. “This looks irresponsible and potentially illegal from their viewpoint.”

In closing, Webb notes that there is a lot of “irresponsible and repugnant behavior going on within the gay adult industry these days. It is our responsibility as leaders within this industry to shine the light upon these behaviors and practices when we see them. We all need to stand up and hold people accountable for their actions as their actions reflect upon everyone within the industry.”

News: Lucas Comments On Hanson BB Film

Although Michael Lucas declined to comment when first approached about yesterday’s exclusive interview with porn star Johnny Hanson about his decision to appear in a bareback movie, the award-winning director has now reconsidered. In a statement released last night, Lucas said that he avoided saying anything at first because he didn’t want to “give this story legs and promote it” and that “sometimes I really don’t feel like judging lost souls.”

However, after reading a quote from Hanson in the story in which he stated that he did the scene because “being the top wasn’t too much of a health risk,” Lucas decided that he had to speak out. “I beg your pardon?” Lucas said. “Johnny Hanson, on numerous occasions, told me that he is HIV-positive. So when he is saying that there was no risk, does he mean there was no risk for the bottom that he fucked? No, seriously, I didn’t want to add more to the tragedy of Johnny Hanson, but I thought that this is particularly gross of him to make such a comment.”

Hanson recently made his comeback in the Lucas Entertainment film The Bigger The Better.

Porn star Johnny Hanson has made the switch to bareback films. In an exclusive interview with VincentLambert.com, Hanson, a onetime Falcon exclusive who recently made a comeback for Lucas Entertainment, admits that he recently shot a scene without using condoms. “Damn, word gets out fast!” he says. “Yes, it’s true I did a BB movie.”

In an interview earlier this year, Hanson, when asked about the rising popularity of barebacking in gay porn, told us, “I think that is just stupid. It’s not too smart and way too risky.”

So why the sudden change of heart? “I was paid the top dollar I asked for,” Hanson says, “and I figured being the top wasn’t too much of a health risk.”

But is the 42-year-old model concerned about the reaction of longtime fans to his decision to go raw? “People were in shock and angry when I did my first porno movie,” Hanson says. “My skin has gotten thicker since then, so I could care less what people think—just enjoy my performance, that’s all I hope for.”

Hanson first made a splash in the 1990s, posing for Playgirl, appearing off-Broadway in Making Porn and starring in such films as The Other Side of Aspen III, Download and Hot Firemen. This year he returned to the industry for director Michael Lucas (above left with Hanson) in The Bigger The Better, but not on an exclusive basis. “Lucas had been after me for six years to do a scene for him,” Hanson says. “He never had plans on making me an exclusive. That was understood from Day One, and it was fine with me. I prefer to work for different companies that are willing to pay me what I demand.”

VincentLambert.com contacted Lucas, president and CEO of Lucas Entertainment, for this story. He said he was not aware that Hanson had filmed a bareback scene but declined further comment.

Hanson’s condom-free debut won’t be released until next month, but for now he seems at peace with his choice. “We can’t make everyone in the world happy,” he says. “I live my life to make me happy first and not worry what people think or say.”
